An accelerograph designed to record accurately the strong ground motion generated by an earthquake. They were originally developed by earthquake engineers, because the traditional seismographs designed by seismologists to record weak ground motions from earthquakes were too fragile and did not have sufficient dynamic range to record strong ground motions.
